Collapse ▲N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services will be certifying scales at the N.C. Cooperative Extension of Forsyth County office on Monday, April 1, 2019, beginning at 8:30 a.m. in Auditorium B for farmers who sell at local farmers’ markets. Those that sell produce and other items by weights must have their scales certified each year. Bring your scale with a sticker note attached with the county that you sell in, your name, address, and phone number written on it. A scale which can be certified is one that can be calibrated externally with weights. The NCDA&CS will be certifying weigh scales on Monday, April 1 at the N.C. Cooperative Extension of Forsyth County office located at 1450 Fairchild Rd. in Winston Salem. Scales need to be NTEP approved to be legal for use in North Carolina to comply with laws dictated by the NCDA&CS. The Measurement Section inspects weighing and measuring devices for accuracy (scales, scanners, motor fuel dispensers, fuel oil meters, and many other devices) and performs inspections of packaged goods to ensure that they contain the stated net contents.
