Page Banner for Food Safety for a Safe Kitchen training program

Food Safety for a Safe Kitchen (FSSK) is an online training program designed for volunteers, recreation professionals, and community agencies who provide educational programming about food topics or provide food to the public. Through self-guided lessons, resources and tools, this program will increase participants’ understanding of the causes of foodborne illness; how to prevent causes of foodborne illness; and proper ways to store, prepare and discard food.

How it works:

The FSSK training consists of 4 modules which include videos and interactive learning activities. Modules are designed in a manner that allows participants to complete lessons at their own pace. The total time to complete the entire programs is about 60 mins. 

Who is this program for?

  • Recreational professionals who provide food programming or distribute food at events, activities or summer camps
  • Volunteers serving NC State Extension
  • Volunteers who assist with community educational food programming, and/or serve or distribute food to the public
  • Volunteers working with non-profit, charitable or community organizations that distribute, educate about or prepare food
  • Members of communities of faith that distribute, educate about or prepare food
