We are thrilled to have two summer interns working with our office this summer! Leelee will primarily be working with our 4-H team and assisting summer programming, and Whitney will support work with the Plant Sciences Initiative (PSI). However, both will be around the office & supporting Extension in various capacities.
Meet Leelee
Hello! My name is Leelee Votaw, and I’m from Harrells, NC. I’ve always had a deep passion for agriculture, which has guided my academic and career goals. I’m currently a rising junior at North Carolina State University, majoring in Biological and Agricultural Engineering Technology with a minor in Animal Science. I applied for this Extension internship because I wanted to gain a better understanding of the behind-the-scenes of Extension operations and to explore the various roles that contribute to its success. I’m excited and grateful for the opportunity to be part of the team this summer. I look forward to learning more about Duplin Extension and expanding my experience in agriculture. In my future career, I hope to contribute to the advancement of the livestock industry by integrating innovative technology to improve sustainability and support animal welfare through research-based solutions. Thank you Duplin County Extension for this amazing opportunity to grow and learn!
Meet Whitney
Hey, y’all! My name is Whitney McLean. I am from Bladenboro, North Carolina. Currently, I am a senior at the University of Mount Olive pursuing a bachelor’s degree in plant science with a minor in justice studies. My love for agriculture started when I was younger, just getting involved with 4-H in Bladen County. From there, I convinced my parents, Bruce and Teresa McLean, to let me raise hogs and chickens. Ever since then my love for all things ag-related grew. I plan to graduate from UMO and further my education at the graduate level. I believe this internship will give me a better understanding of what to pursue for my master’s program journey. I chose an internship through N.C. Cooperative Extension because I have grown up around it and have always enjoyed the wide variety of experiences provided. There is something new every day!
