Sunday, September 13th: Kickoff Day

Kick off the week of ag appreciation with us!

  • From 10:30 am-3:00 pm at the Duplin Livestock Facility (275 Fairgrounds Drive, Kenansville, NC 28349)
  • Petting Zoo, Pony Rides, Games, Crafts, and Vendors open at 10:30 am
  • Cowboy Church Service 12:30 PM
    • with Reverend Kenny Barrett from Kenansville Christian Fellowship
  • Afternoon Performances:
    • 1:00- Carolina Cowgirls Drill Team
    • 1:30- Making Magic Trick Riding
    • 2:00- Working Stockdog Demo
    • 2:30- 10 & Under Goat Scramble
  • Free Vender Sign Up Link

Monday, September 14th: 4-H Art and Photography Contest Entries Due!

Categories

  • Artwork: painting, sketches, sculptures, and more
  • Photography: printed photos only, frame recommended

Age Groups

  • 5-7, 8-13, 14-18

Contest Guidelines

  • Entry must be agriculture-related
  • Participant must be registered in 4-H Online
  • One entry per category per participant
  • Prizes awarded for 1st and 2nd place in each age group and category

Submission Deadline

  • Monday, September 14th, by 5:00 pm
  • Drop off entries at: Duplin Extension Office (165-C Agriculture Drive, Kenansville, NC 28349)

Judging

  • Entries will be judged at the Extension Office on Thursday, September 17th

Tuesday, September 15th: T-Shirt Tuesday

Free T-shirts and goody bags for duplin county farmers. naavy blue t-shirt with monarch and N.C. Cooperative Extension logos with quote "and on the eighth day, God looked down on his planned paradise and said, 'I need a caretaker.' So, God made a farmer.

Free T-shirts and goody bags for Duplin County Farmers available for pickup at the Extension office while supplies last.

Wednesday, September 16th: Farm Photo Contest Entries Due

Showcase the beauty of farm life in Duplin County! Open to everyone- youth and adult! One submission per farm.

Submission Deadline

  • September 16th by 5:00 pm
  • Winners will be announced Friday, September 18th

How to Enter

  1. Snap a photo that highlights the best of your Duplin County farm!
  2. Submit your photo for a chance to win $100!
  3. Include the following information
    1. Photo
    2. Farm name and town where the farm is located
    3. Contact information
  4. Submit by texting entries to 919.820.5010 or email jessica_hall@ncsu.edu

*N.C. Cooperative Extension- Duplin County Center reserves the right to use any submitted material on social media, promotional packets, etc.

Thursday, September 17th: Youth Horse Show

Show Info

  • Show clothes are optional! All riders must wear boots and a helmet
  • $15 flat entry fee per participant
  • Fun Break classes are FREE for all youth
  • Coggins will be checked at registration

What is horsemanship challenge?

This in-hand class was designed to promote horsemanship in all youth. A series of 7 obstacles are to be demonstrated in this class that emphasize horse care and safety. Examples of possible obstacles include:

  • Tying quick release knot
  • Picking out a hoof
  • Putting on a fly mask
  • Backing horse straight
